Waipa Ranch Farmers Market on Kauai defies all mainstream shopping outlets; it takes place in bright green fields spanning between tall, vertical cliffs with waterfalls and one of the North Shore's most beautiful white sand beaches. Owned and operated by a long standing Hawaiian family whose owned the land for generations, the market happens each Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm. Just inland from Kuhio Highway outside of Hanalei and before Ha`ena Beach, the market is more than a place to shop, it's a social and cultural experience.

The market is the hub for locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as ready-to-eat homemade meals and treats. An abundance of locally made arts and crafts, jewelry, knick-knacks, clothing and sculptures are available. With such a good reputation, the goods often run out by closing time and it's a good idea to get there when it opens.

Its beachside location makes it a perfect place to stop during any Tuesday spent exploring the North Shore. Stop in Hanalei for shopping and lunch at a place like Buchon's Hanalei or the Hanalei Taro & Juice Co. Head down the road to the market, and after browsing the vendors, spend time in the river at Lumaha`i or beach walking at Ha`ena. End the day with sunset at Ke`e Beach before heading back to Hanalei for dinner at Bar Acuda.
