Newberry Library is a research facility that houses rare books, maps, and manuscripts. The collection centers around the humanities and features items relating to civilizations in Western Europe and the Americas. Specialty departments include the Chicago Renaissance, Native American history and literature, and Portuguese and Brazilian histories. The library includes 1,500,000 printed titles, five million manuscript pages, and 300,000 historic maps. Open to the public.
