The Brunelleschi Dome it's probably the most important city's icon.
It covers part of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral and it's placed in the central Piazza Duomo.
It has been built from 1420 to 1436. It's the biggest stonework dome ever done. It's still a mistery to get how it has been built. Probably Brunelleschi has made it without using traditional wooden framework.
In Piazza Duomo you will found plenty of other historical buildings. The baptistery, (il battistero), Giotto's bell tower (Campanile di giotto), and Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, the main church of the city. Those monuments are all part of UNESCO Wold Heritage.
You can access those buildings, buying one single ticket, worth only ten euros. It has different opening and closing times, belonging to which period you visit it. There are 463 steps to access the dome (no lift), from where you can get a stimulating view of the whole city.
