Caffe Gilli Pasticceria dates back to 1733, which is engraved on the facade of the building on Via Calzaiuoli where the original Gilli must have stood. Now Gilli is located in Piazza della Republicca. They are famous for their coffee and especially their chocolate. The interior still reflects the twenties from the windows and furniture. After World War II, this place became popular among young people. Outside is where the famous photograph was taken by Ruth Orkin, American Girl in Italy in 1951. A photograph which represents a beautiful American grl who attracts the attention of the young men outside the cafe. Gilli Cafe is a one of a kind stop to see how Florence was back in the day.
