It was left to the city of Florence in 1714 according to Magliabechi's will saying it was for the benefit of the city of Florence. The flood of 1966 caused serious damage, especially to the entire newspaper collection, as well as all the cards and book catalogs, bibliographic apparatus of reading rooms and furnishings.
