Located on the other side of the Arno River, the Santo Spirito neighborhood is a lively spot with plenty to see and do--you can spend your whole time in Florence in this area and never get bored. It's also where you will find a more local flavor and some of the best restaurants and bars in the city.
See & Do
You'll want to make sure to check out the Santo Spirito Church located right on the piazza. It's had an interesting history, and was originally designed by the famed Brunelleschi.
Also make sure to check out Santa Maria del Carmine, where you can find frescoes by Masaccio unlike any other artwork in the city.
Eat
It's hard to choose which restaurants are the best in the neighborhood, but it would be a shame not to try some of the fabulous flavors at Osteria Santo Spirito.
If you're looking for a wonderful pizza, Gusta Pizza is world-famous for its atmosphere and world-class pizzas--you can take them to go or sit at one of the welcoming round tables.
Party
The Santo Spirito area is one of the best for meeting locals and trying out some new kinds of drinks. Check out PopCafe where you can get an excellent Negroni and sit out and enjoy the busy piazza.
Volume is also another spot popular with locals and the young people of Florence looking to have a good time.
Stay
For the highest in class, guests might want to consider staying at the beautiful Hotel Palazzo Guardagni. It combines the feel of being near the city but also having a private getaway unlike any other.
A more budget-friendly option is the Vecchia Firenze, catering to guests happy to be out of the immediate city center.
Shop
If you're looking for something old, think about checking out Pitti Vintage--a staple of those looking for some unique items for a more-than-fair price.
For a high-class boutique, you should think about visiting Angela Caputi. There are several locations throughout Italy, but the one in the Santo Spirito area is truly divine.
