Join one of Rome's premier Italian-language food blog, Tavole Romane and a number of important partners and sponsors for what has become one of the sweetest days on Rome's food calendar - Maritozzo Day. A whole day to celebrate the most loved of all the Roman sweet delicacies. This soft, sweet cream-filled bun is the centrepiece for this very special event taking place on Saturday 7 December at a number of bakeries, cake shops and food outlets across the city. Register via the website for your coupons and then hit the streets of Rome to taste maritozzi at a number of participating locations from bakeries to special versions on restaurant menus. There will be various types on offer ranging from classic to savory to ganache-filled, gluten free and even a gelato version. Some famous participating Roman names include Otaleg Gelateria, Bonci, Armando al Pantheon, Pasticceria Andreotti, Caffe Merenda and Up Sunset Bar. Restaurants who are putting special maritozzi on the menu in Rome include: Armando al Pantheon, Osteria Fernanda, Santo Palato and Trattoria Pennestri. In 2019, a number of other Italian cities have been sweetly cooerced into participating which means more fun in more places and some event proceeds are generously being donated to the Breast Cancer Unit at Rome's Fatebenefratelli Hospital.
