In a neighbourhood with its fair share of casual trattorias and mediocre food outlets, Doppio sure stands out in Trastevere. On a quiet street in the Piazza San Cosimato part of the 'quartiere', this is fine dining in the most casual and pleasant form. From fried and crumbed coda alla vaccinara (roman style oxtail) and a crispy coated poached egg with black truffle to giant fusili Verrigni pasta with wild boar ragù, chanterelle mushrooms and almond to a very quail saltimbocca - there isn't a dish at Doppio a Trastevere that doesn't impress! Young and talented chefs Maurizio Bianchi, Luca Occhipinti and Massimiliano Croce head up the kitchen, under the guidance of Michelin star chef Giuseppe Di Iorio. Ridiculously good food and wine aside, and as gourmet as the menu is, the service has you feeling like you're eating in the dining room of a friend's house. The a-la-carte menu changes seasonally and the tasting menu consists of 4 courses with matching wines and is reasonably priced at 75 euros. And check out the various works of art on the wall - eclectic and homely, Doppio is sure to win over even the fussiest of foodies. TRAM: 8, 3. BUS: 23, 75.
