The Oak Street side of the old Whitney Bank on S. Carrollton Avenue has been vacant for some time. Walking past on the way to Rue de la Course to grab a coffee, one would notice some pretty heavy refurbishment being done to the space, but with no clue as to what would inhabit it.
The mystery is now gone, as Juicy D's has officially opened (soft opening) for business in the heart of Uptown New Orleans. Their specialty, according to owner Dee Jaber is steamed burgers. The steam "cooks the meats, locking in flavor but cooking out the fat". This should be good news to all who've shunned burgers in hopes of getting that figure in check for the summer months.
Beef isn't the only meat available here, as bision, lamb, tuna and salmon are also readily steam-able. The meat selection is just the first of a four part process which includes picking from a number of organic cheese selections, various toppings and bread. Salads and sides are also available.
Knowing that it's tough to survive on Oak Street without offering breakfast, Juicy D's handles that meal admirably as well. Though it's early, things are looking up for this new establishment which hopes to grab some of the "dine out" market share available for the pickings on beloved Oak.
