New Orleans is seeing a rise in popularity of places that cater to costumers looking for ingenuity in their cocktails. With the success of places like Cure and Bellocq, and the seemingly endless demand, the team responsible for those ventures is about to open a new rum bar/island restaurant with the moniker Cane & Table.
Cane & Table will open up in the old Pravada space on Decatur in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The drink menu will echo what you would see in a Havana port bar, twisted with Classical Old World technique. The purveyors have consistently said they aren't into the largely fruit juice laced tiki drinks, so expect less pineapple and more hand-crafted syrups and liqueurs. The ambiance will feel like a chilled-out beach club; the owners refer to it as "proto-tiki."
The space will involve more attention to food service than any of the team's previous establishments. The menu was developed by the founder of the popular Company Burger, and the overseeing chef has worked under James Beard for a number of years.
The team has had great success with their other properties around town, namely Cure, which is in the running for this year's 'Best Cocktail Bar.' They hope to have considerable success with this new concept, given the hours they've poured into the renovations, staff training and menu. Be sure to check them out when perusing the Quarter.
