When it comes to produce, fresh and local is always better.  This is the simple premise of the new Rosemont Produce. This simple but comprehensive produce provider is a subsidiary of the long-time Munjoy Hill favorite Rosemont Market. With expansive connections to local organic farms, Rosemont Produce specializes in obtaining fresh harvested, locally sourced fruits and vegetables. Consider, for instance, a classic staple of Maine cuisine: Fiddleheads. This regional favorite consists of the unfurled shoots of deep woods ferns. Their crunchy, slightly nutty taste has long made Fiddleheads a treasured part of the Maine dinner table. However, there is a slight window for harvesting these gems – early to mid-spring (afterwards, the ferns unfurl and they become inedible). Rosemont Produce recently proved its worth by obtaining bushels upon bushels of newly harvested Fiddleheads, made available to patrons within days after their picking.

Throughout the year, Rosemont’s expert staff picks and chooses the best of the best including organic yellow carrots from Goranson’s Farm in Dresden, Maine; beets from nearby Freedom Farm and Nature’s Circle; greens from Sunset Farms in Lyman, Maine; and appealing spinach and arugula from Fishbowl Farm in Bowdoinham, Maine. All are providers of the freshest, mostly organic produce that is available anywhere in the Pine Tree State. When native grown fruits and vegetables are not in season (think winter, for instance), Rosemont obtains produce from the wholesale Chelsea Market in Boston for items that are shipped from across the country as well as overseas.
