Each year, more than 200,000 people visit this Maine mainstay which features the largest zoo and amusement park in the area. Children are naturally drawn to York’s Wild Kingdom for its extensive animal exhibits. Here, youngsters can enjoy witnessing everything from bobcats to lions, tigers and more exotic species such as Ring Tail Lemurs. A petting zoo where children can get up close and personal with goats, deer and sheep is always a big draw. Similarly, the little ones will thrill to the delicate fluttering of butterflies in the Butterfly Kingdom. In recent years, this local favorite has expanded its offerings with trained animal specialists who fascinate visitors with their knowledge about the resident animals.

In addition, the 25-acre property also features a wide range of amusement rides that are specially geared toward the kiddie set including bumper boats, a Ferris Wheel (which affords great views of the adjacent Short Sands Beach), the Persian Kamel Funhouse, bumper cars, and fast moving twirling rides. In addition, York’s Haunted House attraction is a favorite with young and older alike. Even adults will enjoy the miniature golf course, paddle boats, concession stands and two gift shops located on the grounds. Scenic picnic grounds offer a great opportunity for families and others to relax during the day.
