For Portlanders and others heading to the prime skiing destinations of Western Maine, One Stanley Avenue sets the standard for elegant gourmet dining. Chef and owner Dan Davis calls his menu offerings "the Classic Cuisine of Maine" and he lives up to this reputation with dishes that are rich, full of flavor and satisfying. Think continental, gourmet dishes with a Maine accent. This eatery's atmosphere is warm and inviting with authentic Victorian design touches. Warning here: Don't expect diet plan-friendly fare at this charming restaurant. Davis is a big fan of cream. butter and rich soup stocks in his recipes. However, this is a dining experience well worth a detour from your designated meal plan. Menu favorites include Escalope of Lamb Freeman Ridge featuring mushrooms, dry vermouth and cream; Roast Duck with Rhubarb Glaze featuring hints of red wine, cinnamon and lemon; and Saged Rabbit with Raspberry Sauce. If you are so inclined, Davis also operates a superb bed and breakfast inn adjacent to the restaurant.
