Bar 45 opened in June at Plaza Gali, near the cruise ship terminal in Cabo San Lucas, filling the nightlife gap left when Pub de la Chapu closed. But unlike the former occupant, which specialized in expensively priced international beers, Bar 45 offers comfortable surroundings and very generous prices on Mexican beers, cocktails and American-style food. Perhaps that's why the new bar, besides doing well with tourists, has also become a popular stop for locals.

Bar 45 boasts a nice, comfortable air-conditioned atmosphere, with cozy seating and high-def televisions showing all the latest U.S. and Canadian sporting events. Beers are quite affordable, particularly for this end of the Marina, with bottled Mexican beers like Pacifico, Corona and Tecate available for 20 pesos (about $1.50 U.S.), and Corona and Negro Modelo on tap for 15 pesos. Cocktails are also reasonably priced, with well drinks offered at 35 pesos each, and daily two-for-one deals on tropical thirst quenchers like margaritas and pina coladas.
The pub-style menu at Bar 45 features traditional American favorites like hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken wings, with french fries and onion rings also available as side orders. For those disconcerted by the idea of coming all the way to Mexico for hamburgers and hot dogs, the taqueria next door is affiliated with the bar and offers terrific arrachera tacos, among other Mexican specialties. Local fishermen often stop in during the late afternoon hours, and fresh fish is sometimes shared with lucky patrons.
