Cabo San Lucas built its reputation as a resort destination on big-game sportfishing, but over the past two decades the Los Cabos area has also become a world-class golf and spa locale. Virtually every hotel or resort of note boasts an onsite spa, and many showcase lengthy conceptual massage and treatment menus, as well as stylish salon services and state-of-the-art fitness facilities. Los Cabos dominates rankings of the best spas in Latin America, annually accounting for nearly half the entries on lists that draw from a vast geographic conglomeration that includes almost the entirety of Central and South America.

It should come as no surprise that the best spas are typically located at the best hotels and resorts. Tourist Corridor standouts One&Only Palmilla, Esperanza and Las Ventanas al Paraíso all feature expansive, world-class spa services and facilities. The Cabo Spa at Esperanza is generally considered the best spa in México, and is particularly noted for its romantic couples’ therapies. One&Only Spa and The Spa at Las Ventanas also excel at treatments for two, among many other holistic wellness programs.

In addition to standard massage options like Swedish and Shiatsu, many area spas also boast conceptual menu options revolving around a central idea. Luna y Mar at Cabo San Lucas' benchmark The Resort at Pedregal offers treatments based on the phases of the moon, while the luxurious Médano Beach resort Casa Dorada specializes in treatments utililizing the curative powers of the mineral rich waters of the Sea of Cortez.

Tourist Corridor luxury lodging Westin Resort & Spa offers a generous array of skin, body and beauty therapies, as well as special spa packages and five minute samplers poolside. Top massages include the beachside "Open Breeze," and a golfers' massage designed to decrease fatigue and improve flexibility. Chocolate and mint exfoliations, and Tired Legs and Feet treatments highlight the body care menu, while a Luxury Caviar Facial Treatment is among the many soothing skin care therapies. Salon services include manicures, pedicures and hair care. In-room spa services are also available, and the resort's expansive fitness facilities extend to excellent onsite tennis courts. NOTE: The Spa at Westin Los Cabos is currently undergoing repairs and renovations following damages caused by Hurricane Odile. It is expected to reopen in March 2016.

YHI Spa at the trendy ME Cabo Resort on Médano Beach is named for the goddess of light in Australian mythology, although the signature spa services are primarily derived from ancient Mayan and Aztec rituals, and also showcase traditional Mexican ingredients like pitaya (dragon fruit). Holistic programs include Ayurveda and Temazcal (sweat lodge) therapies, as well as a range of massages and body treatments, facials and exfoliations, and manicures and pedicures. Guests also have access to the onsite fitness facility, and to a hydrotherapy circuit with wet and dry saunas, plunge pools and hydro massage. Wellness classes are also available. NOTE: YHI Spa is currently undergoing repairs and renovations following damages caused by Hurricane Odile. Reopening dates have yet to be announced.

Recommended for Spas because: YHI Spa is one of the premier sites in Los Cabos for Temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge therapy that dates back to Mexico's pre-Hispanic past.

The Armonia Spa is a top attraction at the adults-only, all-inclusive Pueblo Bonito Pacifica on the Pacific Coast of Cabo San Lucas. Local grand-dame resort One&Only Palmilla is sporting a new spa and fitness center following renovations and upgrades in the wake of September 2014 storm Hurricane Odile. The sprawling 22,000 square foot facility features signature services in 13 private treatment villas, each set within a secluded, landscaped courtyard, with optional amenities like plunge pools, rain showers and swinging day beds. Additional upgrades include the new OBO Salon from celebrity Beverly Hills stylists Jonathan Antin and Amanda George; the exclusive new men's grooming salon Barber&Blade; and a wide array of manicure and pedicure services and "duo" options in a studio designed by noted French podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez. Healthy food and fresh juices are available in the Yoga Garden.

Long considered one of the benchmark spas in all of Latin America, The Spa at Esperanza is particularly noted for its romantic couples' treatments, but also boasts signature therapies like the Pasaje de Agua, a water based experience that combines a warm-spring soaking pool, steam caves and a cool waterfall rinse. A new outdoor relaxation area is one of many new features that have been added since the spa's post Hurricane Odile makeover. Gym and yoga facilities are also available, and the integrated wellness program now includes approximately 35 classes per week.
