Julia Mia (My Julia) is Cancun’s newest Mexican restaurant and has quickly become a local favorite since its opening on June 10, 2013. Don’t expect to find Tex-Mex here; this is gourmet Mexican fusion food with plenty of traditional favorites thrown in, all at a reasonable price. The freshest, highest quality ingredients are used with respect and care in each dish.

The concept behind Julia Mia starts with a strong, traditional yet modern woman. She is a mother, daughter, sister and lover who lives with passion, loves tequila and the history and heritage behind classic Mexican cuisine. Old favorites like ceviche, doraditos, tostadas, quesadillas and chicken with mole become mouthwatering delicacies when combined with new techniques and ingredients.

A margarita, Mexican wine or an excellent tequila or mezcal are wonderful complements to your meal. It’s difficult to decide on just one dessert with choices like churros, Volcan de Chocolate (Chocolate Volcano), trufa de chocolate con mole (chocolate mole truffle) and helados (homemade ice cream), so order a few and share.

On Fridays, Julia Mia’s lovely neo-Mexican décor comes alive with live Mariachi music played on the grand staircase. The restaurant accepts reservations, groups and children are welcome, and outdoor seating is available. Visit in September, when Julia Mia features a special menu and event to celebrate Mexican independence.
Julia Mia is located in downtown Cancun on Yaxchilan Avenue near Costco between Xpuhil and Bacalar Avenues. The creative, modern Mexican cuisine and ambiance is well worth the trip from the Hotel Zone.
