Walk hand-in-hand along one of the canals and admire the old yet absolutely beautiful architecture. Be sure to glance up at the gables situated at the top of the houses.

This area is filled with cute boutique shops and charming cafes. Do a little shopping or take a short break and taste a typical Dutch treat, apple pie. Then make your way to the Bloemenmarkt, the worlds only floating flower market. Buy your loved one a bouquet of flowers. Make sure one of the flowers is fake and tell them you will love them until the last flower dies. Continue east and visit the Magere Brug, the famous Skinny Bridge. Send a spark through your partner’s body with an electric kiss as you stand above the water.
If you don’t want to do a walking tour, or prefer to see the city via alternative means of transportation, rent a boat or hire a carriage. Sail the winding waterways and see the city from an entirely new perspective. Relax on the water and sip on a glass of wine together. You can also tour the town in style and trot up and down the streets by horse drawn carriage. Summer or winter, this is a great way to snuggle up close to your loved one and watch the city pass by.
You have a couple different options when it comes to lunch. The Belhamel offers a romantic ambiance and delicious meal along the canal. De Compagnon serves French cuisine and has a wine list with approximately 400 wines. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, head to Hannekes Boom and ask them to pack you a picnic. Stop by Gartine or Bickers aan de Werf in the afternoon for high tea. If you just want a light snack, visit one of the open-air markets near the cruise port, such as the Nieuwmarkt or Noordermarkt. You’ll find an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as cheeses, meats and seafood.

You can visit Gassans Diamonds near the Nieuwmarkt. They offer tours and the possibility to present your girlfriend, fiancé or wife with a sparkling new piece of jewelry.
At the end of the afternoon, spend some quiet time in the butterfly house at the Artis, Amsterdam’s zoo. Watch these delicate creatures flutter around. Maybe one will even land on you. Take a moment to appreciate the little things in life. Throughout the day, make sure to pop into a brown café or two. These cozy establishments are often dark and lit with candles, creating a romantic atmosphere.
