If you're visiting Amsterdam, then make sure to discover the different neighborhoods. These districts are home to some of the best shops and restaurants, and they make a great place to meet locals. Most of the new and trendy restaurants in Amsterdam open up in the more residential areas. One of the newest additions to the hip restaurant scene is Hugo's Bar & Kitchen in Amsterdam West.
Hugo's Bar & Kitchen is located in the Hugo de Grootplein. This restaurant opened recently by the same group that also has the trendy restaurant Franklin Bar & Kitchen. When you're standing at the Hugo de Grootplein, you might walk by Hugo's Bar & Kitchen without noticing what a great place is located there. The restaurant front is all black and looks really small. But don't let this fool you.
Once inside at Hugo's Bar & Kitchen, you will feel like you're in Paris and New York at the same time. It's a cozy and classic decorated bistro that hosts a more formal restaurant area and a bar where it can be pretty crowded with cocktail hour.
Cocktails are one of the specialties form Hugo's. The cocktail list is extensive and has some great flavors on it. Make sure to try Hugo’s, Spicy Tropics, The Neighbour, Hugo the Great and Smoking Johnnie. All delicious!

The menu at Hugo's Bar & Kitchen is made for shared dining. Order two to three dishes per person and some sides and share with the whole table. Also fun is to do a tasting menu and let the chef pick some of the signature dishes for you. The tasting menus start at € 30, for three courses, and € 36, for four courses. Ask your waiter for wines to pair with the dishes. This will make the food and wine experience the best you can imagine.

At Hugo's Bar & Kitchen, the menu is seasonal and uses the best produce a season has to offer. Where possible, the produce is local. The menu has classic dishes with a twist. All the dishes are served as perfectly styled plates and almost too beautiful to eat.
On the current menu, you can find dishes like steak of veal, tartare du jour, salad Lorraine, a fresh crab meat salad, Haddock and a risotto. Make sure to have a look on the restaurant's website for the most recent menu.
After dinner at Hugo's, this hot spot in Amsterdam West is perfect to stay at for a few more drinks. The bar scene will get busy from Thursday to Sunday after 9 p.m. The trendy crowd is a great mix of locals, expats and tourists that found this gem. Ask the bar tender for the special Bloody Mary they make with fresh tomato juice. It's the best!
