About Leidseplein
Leidseplein is located in the heart of Amsterdam. This well-connected area started in the 17th century as a parking place for farmers’ horses and carts. Today, the busy square is one of the city’s most popular nightlife areas, home to famous music venues, fun dance clubs, relaxed bars and more.
Eat
Leidseplein is overflowing with dining options. Considering it’s such a small area, you’ll find an assortment of cuisines to choose from: Argentinian and Greek to Italian and Indonesian. Try the rice table at Puri Mas or visit De Blauwe Hollander for traditional Dutch dishes. Don’t miss Café Americain, notorious for its art deco interior. If you need something quick, there are fast food options, too, including Burger King, FEBO and Wok to Walk.
Party
This lively square is always buzzing with energy and packed with people who’ve come for a memorable night out. Leidseplein is home to world famous live music venues, such as Paradiso and Melkweg, and intimate dance clubs like Jimmy Woo and Chicago Social Club. It’s possible to party until the break of dawn. Visitors can also enjoy a beer on the outdoor terrace, pop into a nearby bar or catch a performance at the Stadsschouwburg.
Stay
Leidseplein is a great area to book a hotel, as it’s centrally located. Leidseplein is a transportation hub, where several bus and tram lines meet, and within walking distance of many major Amsterdam attractions, such as the Rijksmuseum and floating flower market. Surrounding the square, you’ll find a variety of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife scene. Hotels nearby include Boutique Hotel View, music-themed BackStage Hotel, the classy Marriott and the elegant American Hotel.
