This Victorian mansion (1859) was originally occupied by a young George Hearst, who began to amass the Hearst fortunes with $400 of borrowed money. By 1870, the home belonged to wealthy John Mackay, who made his fortune owning several mines during the Comstock period. The mansion remains a treasure trove of 18th- and 19th-century antiques and also features original chandeliers and priceless silver items. The onsite Mackay Pavillion can be rented for weddings or other special events.
