Spring has hit the mountains around Lake Tahoe and that means tons of outdoor activities as well as some good weather for outdoor dining. If you find yourself up at the lake on a spring weekend, check into either the Resort at South Shore in South Lake Tahoe or the Granlibakken Resort near Tahoe City and you will be close to all the great outdoor sports and events that are happening around the area.

For a great choice of breakfasts in the area, start out with the waffles or pancakes at Heidi's Pancake House in South Lake or the veggie Eggs Benedict at the Fire Sign Café in Tahoe City where you can sit outside on their deck.
Next on the list is hiking in the Desolation Wilderness area. Get to this area above Emerald Bay early to get a good parking spot and if you are a looking for a mild hike, head about a mile up to Eagle Lake. This beautiful, little gem is hidden in the folds of towering granite cliffs and offers a great place for a picnic. If you want to continue on, head up into the backcountry to Middle Velma Lake or Dicks Lake which are another 3 to 5 miles into the mountains, but offer a great view of Emerald Bay.
After coming down from your hike, you will be famished, so head to The Brewery in South Lake Tahoe for their great pizza and draft beer. For some dessert, head over to the Red Hut Waffle Shop's fountain shop for some ice cream or a root beer float (you deserve it after all that hiking). For a late night cocktail and maybe some live music, go to The Divided Sky in Meyers, which is just south of South Lake Tahoe.
The next day, take it easy and head to the beach. Common's Beach in Tahoe City, Pope Beach or Kiva Beach in South Lake Tahoe are some of the best beaches in the area to just lie down on a towel and get some sun. The water may be too cold to go swimming, but try it anyway and impress everyone with your bravery.
For a nice dinner out, go to the Sunnyside Restaurant or Christy Hill, which are both in Tahoe City and offer an option for eating inside or outside, with both options having a view of the lake during sunset.
