While Austin's is a small restaurant almost dwarfed by the larger Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village in Tahoe, this little engine serves up some filling and excellent American food made from fresh ingredients.

For lunch or dinner, you can choose from their famous chicken fried chicken, numerous salads, mountain rainbow trout, homemade meatloaf, burgers, sandwiches and pesto pasta prima vera.

Let’s start with that Chicken Fried Chicken, shall we? This favorite is a hand-tenderized boneless chicken breast flat grilled and served with country gravy. Other favorites include the Mountain Rainbow Trout and the Classic Meatloaf, which is a secret recipe from Grandma Margaret.

Austin’s various side dishes have included soup, their excellent coleslaw, grilled onions or mushrooms, buttermilk or sweet potato fries with jalapeño dipping sauce, applesauce, green beans or small salads. For a great appetizer, we tried their fried pickles with the same jalapeño dipping sauce served with the fries.

Austin’s salads are pretty impressive. Austin’s Salad has Austin's style grilled chicken, shredded tortilla strips, tomatoes, chives and salad mix. The recommended dressing is the Honey Mustard with a dash of Peanut Sauce.

The bar serves up various local and regional brews. Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, as well as imported beer and wine, have definitely made appearances. To go with the Chicken Fried Chicken, try the C.F.B. Bloody Mary, with homemade bloody Mary mix and the “whole darn garden.”

Located just up the street from the beach in front of the Lone Eagle Grille at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe, Austin's is also a great place to head after spending the day out in the sunshine in summer.
