One of the most popular trends in Lake Tahoe hotels today is the refurbishment of older motels, which transforms them into upscale and eco-friendly boutique hotels. South Lake Tahoe first saw this with the Basecamp Hotel and now the former Royal Valhalla will become the Landing Resort & Spa. The hotel is scheduled to open up in November of 2013, will be located near Lakeside Beach on the South Shore and will offer high quality service for half the price of more expensive hotels.

The hotel will have views of the lake and a special oversized balcony especially for large weddings and special events. Each of the rooms will have waterfall showers, heated floors and heated toilet seats and towel racks. All the furniture will be custom made and each bed will have sateen linens, goose down pillows and comforters. The rooms will also be equipped with Kuerig coffee makers with Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea.
The onsite restaurant, Jimmy's Lounge, will serve wood-fired Greek seafood and will feature private dining alcoves with private fireplaces. The restaurant's patio will also have fire pits that overlook the lake, which will be perfect for the upcoming winter season. The restaurant will also feature seasonal vegetables, locally-sourced ingredients and a large wine list as well as Ouzo-based cocktails.
