Hopefully, many romantic getaways end up with someone getting nude. Now, you can both get a little naked in a hot spring after a day of cross-country skiing in the brisk mountain air of the Tahoe area.
This romantic, wintry day for just the two of you starts out with a brisk, cross-country ski trip through the nearly 6,000 acres of groomed trails at the Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort in the Sierra Nevada near Lake Tahoe. If you or your partner are new to cross-country skiing, then Royal Gorge offers a team of professional instructors as well as al-day or half-day rental packages that start at only $20 for adults. An all-day ski pass is $28, and an afternoon ski pass is $23. A mountain for just the two of you at Royal Gorge - the pooch is optional — Photo courtesy of Royal Gorge
The Royal Gorge ski place includes dozens of beginner, intermediate and advanced groomed trails with views of the local mountain peaks, pine forests and the 4,417-foot-deep Royal Gorge at the top of the park.
The park even offers several dining options, including the Summit Station Lodge and various warming huts that offer hot drinks and food options. But if you really want to kick up the romance factor, then pack your own picnic with some food and wine from a local shop like Avec Wine Bar.
After a day in the snow, one of the best things to do in Tahoe is take a dip in a hot tub, and Sierra Hot Springs in Sierraville is one of the best kept secrets in the area.
This beautiful, clothing-optional hot spring resort looks more like your grandmother's farmhouse. The main lodge is a rustic but cozy hotel with a large fireplace, a library and a restaurant that opens for dinner on special occasions. The Hot Springs is a non-profit that charges membership fees. One month is $5 per person, and a day visit that lasts until midnight is $20 per person.
The natural hot springs are scattered among the pine and aspen trees, and you can take your pick from among private forest pools, a large warm swimming pool or a roasting hot pool inside the meditative and quiet Temple Dome. The dressing room for Sierra Hot Springs is co-ed and offers hot showers and shelving for your clothes. You are welcome to stay way into the night in the pools and look out over Sierraville's mountains and fields. The Temple Dome pool at Sierra Hot Springs — Photo courtesy of Sierra Hot Springs
If you and your partner want to take advantage of the additional health services at Sierra Hot Springs, the resort offers couples massages that include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Aquatic Massage, Reflexology and Shiatsu. A 30-minute massage is only $30.
If you want something different, then just ask the resort about their Watsu services. Watsu is a combination of aquatic bodywork that combines elements of massage, joint mobilization, shiatsu, muscle stretching and dance. It is a beautiful service to enjoy at the end of a romantic day in the mountains. One of the forest pools at Sierra Hot Springs — Photo courtesy of Sierra Hot Springs
