While the River School Farm is not exactly in Lake Tahoe, the farm is located right on the Truckee River in Verdi and is about a half-hour drive from North Lake Tahoe or the town of Truckee. The River School Farm has become a popular place for both locals and visitors wanting to understand more about the land and how our food is grown. The River School has several greenhouses and hoop houses overflowing with vegetables, several pens for goats, ducks and chickens and even an apiary buzzing with honeybees. The natural lush gardens, full of native plants and trees, are also dotted with sculptures and art from local artists.

The River School Farm also offers workshops ranging from drum circles to children's cooking classes and gardening to belly dancing. Their other classes and workshops teach everything from how to raise bees and harvest honey to how to grow food in the high desert and in small spaces. Their Dynamic Vinyasa yoga classes are taught by the lovely Jelena Hardy and either take place in the yoga studio or outside on the lawn. The classes are from 5:00-6:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9:00-10:15 am on Sundays.

The River School Farm also offers native landscaping services and a local CSA. The farm is even available to rent for special events and parties. If you are looking for a unique and beautiful place to have a wedding, the River School has an outdoor kitchen for food prep, a large grassy area by the river for the ceremony and reception, and a ton of little nooks and crannies around the yard for guests to enjoy the river and views of the mountains.
