Lake Tahoe is so much better when you can bring your best furry friend along. Dogs are allowed on several of the beaches and trails around the Tahoe area and there are also places to stay for pet owners. Here are the 10Best hotels, inns and Bed and Breakfasts in the Tahoe area that will accept your pooch or kitty as another customer.

Two of the most famous is the Cedar House Sport Hotel near Truckee and the cute cottages at Tahoma Meadows B&B. Both of these places to stay also offer special events and activities just for dog owners. Another place you can take your dog is the Zephyr Cove Resort's family and group cabins on the east side of the lake.

Some of the larger resorts that accept pets include The Ritz-Carlton at the Northstar ski area near Truckee and the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village. All of the rooms at the Fireside Lodge are pet-friendly and the Cedar Glen Lodge allows two pets per room. The hip and green Basecamp Hotel has a few pet-friendly rooms that have an added cost for your furry friends and the small, independent hotel The Alpenrose also has several pet-friendly rooms as well as quick access to the South Shore beaches.

The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino is located near the beach in Incline Village and close to Diamond Peak Ski Resort. This pet-friendly resort has a private beach, restaurant and a bar/lounge, fitness facility, business center and wifi is available in public areas. Additional property amenities include a casino, an arcade/game room, and multilingual staff. The Hyatt offers rooms, cottages and suites and many of them have views of the North Shore. Accommodations feature alpine style décor and guests can enjoy a private lounge serving breakfast and evening cocktails. Many of the Tahoma Meadows cottages have been in the area since the 1950s and they make a charming place to bring the entire family–"including the dog. Each cabin is uniquely decorated with mountain decor and surrounded by pine and aspen trees. All the cottage are private and have separate entrances, baths with claw foot tubs, living spaces and some even have lofts. The common space serves breakfast in the morning and complimentary refreshments in the afternoons. Also from the common room, you can relax by the fire and see the lake from the windows. Weddings and special events can also be held on the property.

Located in a quiet area of the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, Rustic Cottages are 19 old Tahoe-style cottages, all with private bathrooms and some with kitchens, lofts and pet-friendly rooms. Originally the sawmill and labor camp of the Brockway Lumber Company, the property was converted to vacation cottages in 1925. Each cottage has its own name and decor and is tucked away in the pine trees just a few steps from the shore of the lake. Several cabins include a simple studio setup with twin beds and some of the cabins have larger rooms with queen and king size beds, a living room and a loft. Pets are allowed for an extra fee.

The Landing Resort & Spa is a luxurious boutique hotel that features 88 rooms with views of the lake, bathrooms with heated toilet seats and floors, luxurious linens and furnishings and 55-inch wall-mounted televisions. The resort itself is in South Lake Tahoe, close to the Heavenly ski resort and the casinos of the South Shore. The hotel also features several conference and reception rooms including the Rooftop Deck with a fireplace and a heated outdoor pavilion. Tahoma Lodge


This cute, historic property is family-run and offers eight one and two bedroom cabins for rent. Each one is named and includes kitchens, bathrooms, private decks and porches and access to Lake Tahoe and all the North Shore activities. The Tahoma Lodge was built in the late 1940s. The cabins have been updated over the years, but the architecture still reflects a cozy mountain charm of the area.
