If you are shopping in the Lake Tahoe area, there are not too many larger malls to go to, but what Tahoe does have are smaller shopping centers and cute, little ski villages that features stores selling clothing, ski gear, outdoor gear, food, home design items and even children's toys.

The various malls in the Tahoe area include the Boatworks Mall and the Cobblestone Center in Tahoe City. There is also several large malls like the Summit and Cabela's just outside of Tahoe in the Truckee and Reno areas. The best shopping at Tahoe is at the various ski resorts including Heavenly, Northstar and Squaw Valley in the Olympic Valley. Each of these resorts feature villages with shops like Patagonia, The North Face, Oakley and True North. Ski and outdoor gear rule in the mountains and you are sure to find something that you can use in Tahoe or take home as a gift.

Other shopping areas include the Artisan's Market Place in Truckee which features locally made art by artists in the area. This is a great place to find that perfect gift. Locals like to shop at places like this as well as shops like the Lululemon outlet in Truckee. The The 125,000 square-foot store features a massive hunting gear department, fishing gear, camping gear, clothing, food, restaurants and an educational and entertainment attraction, featuring a decor of museum-quality animal displays, huge aquariums and trophy animals interacting in realistic re-creations of their natural habitats. The staff at Cabela's are very knowledgeable about their products and local area and will offer advice on where to do in Lake Tahoe.

The stores at the Village at Northstar near Truckee include ski-centric shops like Burton, Butterbox, Oakley, Helly Hansen and Patagonia. Other stores like The North Face and True North feature high-end and quality clothing for both on and off the mountain. Specialty shops include Bath by Nature, the Villager Candle Shop, Ambassador Toys and Earthly Delights. Shopping at the Village at Northstar is like shopping in a European village.

The Cobblestone Center in Tahoe City has won awards for its Bavarian-style architecture and features several local shops, a cinema and a restaurant. The shops include the Kalifornia Jean Bar, Kunst Furniture, Bluestone Jewelry, New and Used Tahoe Sports, the Uncorked Wine Bar & Shop, the Tahoe Yoga Institute, the Bookshelf used book store and the Alpine Antiquer with unique and affordable antiques for any shopper. Special events are held every so often at the Cobblestone Center including art shows, fashion shows and holiday parties. The Boatworks Mall is an indoor, enclosed mall right on the shore of Lake Tahoe with a wonderful view of the marina. The design is woodsy and typical Tahoe with lots of wood, large beams and an open and airy entryway. Inside is several clothing stores including a contemporary store for women and a resort and outdoor apparel shop, an art gallery, a yoga studio, a jewelry store and a chocolate shop. There is also a hair salon and a professional makeup salon that specializes in makeup for weddings. At Hemmings & Jarrett, you can find high-quality furniture, home accessories and gifts and at the Tahoe Shoe & Clothing Company you can find top brand names such as Dansko, Crocs, Merrell, Ugg, Clarks, Reef, Privo, Keen and Teva. The wonderful Bookshelf book store carries a complete line of fiction and children's books, with over 20,000 titles. They also specialize in large picture books.
