Named after an Italian village, this tiny seaside destination sits on a barrier island just off Long Island's southern shore. This setting allows its average temperatures to be 10° warmer during winter months and 10° cooler during summer months than those of New York City. Until the 1960s, the beach was home to the posh, Med-style Lido Beach Hotel; however, its promise as a resort community was never fully realized. Today, visitors find Lido an unassuming residential beach community where peace and quiet are plentiful and you'll probably never find yourself jockeying for a place to set up the umbrella.
