The Colonial-style Country House dates from the early 18th century, making it one the oldest structures in the area, and its history is nothing short of fascinating. For example, in the 1830s, owner Thomas Hadaway and painter William Sidney Mount conducted séances here to try and contact Rembrandt, and the house is even believed to be haunted by a woman the British troops hung for treason. Even with all of that going for it, the Country House delivers the knockout punch with its intrepid New American fare. Reservations are encouraged.
