Roulette Intermedium has been leading the charge for experimental music, dance and inter-media art in New York City since 1978. Started in a Tribeca loft by three composers, Roulette has presented some of the most cutting edge work the city has seen.
Thousands of artists have played on the Roulette stage including world-renowned figures such as Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Robert Ashley, John Cage, Anthony Braxton, Bill Frisell, Philip Glass, Oliver Lake, Meredith Monk, Billy Martin, Pauline Oliveros, Zeena Parkins, Henry Threadgill and John Zorn among others.
In 2011 Roulette moved from a 74 seat loft to a newly renovated 1920s Art Deco concert hall in Downtown Brooklyn, the new Roulette features two levels of seating for up to 400 people (600 standing), an expanded multi-channel sound system, projection screen for film and multi-media events, state-of-the-art lighting system, modular stage, and a specially designed floor to accommodate dance.
The new space has allowed Roulette to expand its bold programming which now features numerous dance events featuring cutting edge choreographers such as Sally Silvers, Pooh Kay, Biba Bell and Stephanie Skura. Roulette has also introduced a ground-breaking experimental series for children and regularly hosts other organizations located in the surrounding community such as the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the award winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
Drop by almost any night of the week to experience the best avant-garde artists New York has to offer. Admission is minimal and there is a bar that serves wine, beer and soft drinks. Roulette is also conveniently located near the Atlantic Terminal where most major subway lines stop.
