Café'tal Social Club is about as authentic a piece of Little Italy's soul as you, as a visitor will be able to get. As a "social club," not many of which are still around especially in the Little Italy/Soho border alongside St. Patrick's downtown, it was opened to members only for more than 60 years. Fast forward to its life as a trattoria without pretense. Friendly, warm, packed with lively characters in movies, media and just neighbors who stop by. On the menu are "charcuterie style meats, cheeses – from local markets and the vendors that have made this corner of the city famous: Faiocco, DePaolo, Parisi and Moe the Butcher. Try the hand-made focaccica pizza, Panini, salads, pastries, beer, wine, Italian specialty & pasta dishes, as well as pastries (from Veniero's) and the famous Ciao Bella Gelato & Sorbet daily. The espresso would make Naples proud. The vibes are low-key, no one rushes you out, service is smooth, efficient and you feel like you are at a friend's house who really knows his way around the kitchen. Slip in to one of the window seats, order a Montepulciano, Nero d'Avola, and be transported to a busy little street in Amalfi or dine alfresco.
