After four years of work, the presentation opened just a few weeks ago–and it's so large that it takes up two floors. This exciting new exhibit will only be at the OMSI until January 5, 2014 when it heads to Ohio, so do not delay your visit.
The Sherlock Holmes viewing has combined science, history and culture for a one-of-a-kind experience. Not only does it bring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle–the author–to life, but also brings to life the fascinating stories of Sherlock Holmes, who is quite possibly the world’s most famous detective, and Dr. Watson.
At the interactive exhibit, guests will find themselves stepping into Sherlock Holmes’ 19th-century London to solve a crime: a murder. Patrons can see if they have what it takes to solve a captivating mystery (with only four clues) through observation and by using the detective’s infamous techniques, including forensics experiments.
This portion of the presentation offers fascinating glimpses into sciences like botany and ballistics. There are also multiple live demonstrations throughout, explaining the various techniques Holmes uses such as comparing handwriting and detecting possible poisons. There’s even a telegraph that you can use to send a morse code message across the room!
In addition to the live demonstrations, the manuscript for Hound of the Baskervilles, period artifacts, and investigative tools used by Sherlock Holmes are featured. If you have only recently become a fan from the more recent Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, you'll be happy to know that you'll also encounter various items and props from the movies.
