About Fairmount/Art Museum area
This neighborhood is home to many of the museums in Philadelphia. It is a walkable area full of cafes, shops, green spaces and attractions. The name Fairmount came from the hill on which the art museum is located and where William Penn intended to build his manor house.
See & Do
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is the most prominent attraction in this area. Located outside are the famed Rocky Steps as well as the statue of Rocky that make great photo opportunities. Additional museums on Ben Franklin Parkway include the Rodin Museum and Barnes Foundation, both well worth a visit. Eastern State Penitentiary is also located nearby, as well as Fairmount Waterworks, scenic Kelly Drive, Schuylkill River Trail, Boathouse Row, Fairmount Park and Franklin Institute.
