German settlers developed the North Side, and their influence remains. Max's Allegheny Tavern, for instance, serves authentic German food and beers. The Grand Hall at the Priory – a banquet hall – occupies the former St. Mary's German Catholic Church. Although it's open only for special events, the Priory itself is a high-class bed and breakfast. A stay there will put you within walking distance of PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Center, the Mexican War Streets (where Gertrude Stein was born), and the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
