Pueblo Libre is another interesting Lima district, with lots of monuments, historic manor houses, archaeological remains, two large Indian Markets where you can buy all kind of souvenirs, a two very complete historical and anthropological museums, great for taking the kids. Take some time to see this somewhat underrated corner of Lima; you will have a great time.
See & Do
This is a peaceful spot away from the noisy downtown but still in the heart of the city: it has a beautiful antique stones paving and is surrounded by by Republican-era mansions: one of these houses nowadays the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, Arqueologia e Historia (the history museum). The square's central fountain dates from mid-1700's.
Eat
Established in an old manor house dated from the late 1700's (carefully restored to fully show its former elegance) this restaurant serves traditional Peruvian food, as well as many Peruvian-Internacional fusion dishes and a large buffet. There is also Peruvian liquors and drinks, from international cocktails to creations of these bartenders.
Shop
Located on Avenida La Marina, this is a large complex that comprises several long galleries full of shops and stalls offering handicrafts from all over Peru; from alpaca sweaters to some inexpensive decoration item. Prices are very affordable, and the great variety of offer may take you some more time to choose the best for you. And don't forget that in these places you can bargain --and maybe getting a significant discount.
