ViniPortugal, the trade body that promotes Portuguese wines, offers visitors a chance to sample some of country's finest wines for absolutely nothing. From Tuesday to Saturday, between 11am and 7pm, ViniPortugal's Sala Ogival de Lisboa offers free wine tasting sessions every hour. On offer are selections of wines from three different regions, made available by producers through their respective regional winegrowing commissions. The choice of wine changes every month. ViniPortugal staff are on hand to explain the history behind each label, and the variety of grapes used. Some wines available for tasting can also be purchased. The tasting room is set under the vaulted ceilings of the Ministry of Agriculture premises that overlook Lisbon's landmark square, also known as Praca do Comercio.
