No visit to Lisbon is complete without taking a sightseeing trip on one of the city's trams. But if you're travelling with kids, the best option is to take an official tour using the Hills Tramcar. Departing from Praca do Comercio the trams, easily recognised by their red paintwork and old-fashioned look, trundle along a circuit that takes in the west of the city as far as Estrela before doubling back passing Alfama, Graca and Chiado districts along the way. An audio guide explains the history behind each district and featured historic monuments. The ticket, valid for 24 hours, also allows free access to the Santa Justa lift, the Bica, Gloria and Lavra funiculars, and to Carris public yellow trams, the fleet of which includes the famous No 28.

- Things to Do with Kids: "You need to purchase a voucher at the kiosk or online. The voucher is then exchanged for a ticket, issued by the tram driver before departure."
- Best for Things to Do with Kids Because: This is a novel way to explore the Portuguese capital, and the most convenient if travelling with kids. Be sure to sit them by the window!
