Naïve vegetarian restaurant is located in the heart of the city's Peranakan district, Katong. Naïve was founded on a simple philosophy – to serve food that was "natural and simple". The result is a healthy Asian menu featuring purely plant-based ingredients, with no meat, seafood, eggs or MSG, and more surprisingly, no onion or garlic either.
All meals at Naïve begin with a Japanese blessing ceremony called "Bloss", where diners are invited to crush sesame seeds in a pestle and mortar for two minutes – these can later be sprinkled on the food to add flavor. Once this is completed, diners can dig into meatless dishes which heavily feature tofu, meaty monkey head and oyster mushrooms and rice. Choose from whimsically named dishes such as "Enchanted Forest" (monkey head mushrooms braised with wolfberry, tang gui (a Chinese herb) and broccoli); "Elephant Toes" (handmade soy bags with water chestnut and tasty bits of ginger sauce; and "Green Earth" (wood ear mushrooms sautéed with asparagus, lotus roots and lily bulbs in a light sauce).
