When we locals say there's something in our city for everyone, we mean it. Charleston, S.C., has a lot to offer.
And while we're best known for the many historic sites – such as Fort Sumter – and beautiful streetscape, that doesn't mean that families traveling to Charleston with kids won't find plenty to do and see in the Lowcountry!
Once such crowd-pleasing attraction is the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, an indoor-outdoor play space for children of all ages, conveniently located on busy Upper King Street downtown.
This museum is one of the top family excursions in South Carolina, let alone the Charleston area, and with good reason. Plus, when you need to warm up during the winter or beat the heat with your kids, an indoor activity is a welcome choice.

The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry offers plenty of opportunity to expend some energy and take part in some educational play during your visit to Charleston.
When visiting the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, plan for at least an hour and a half for kids to enjoy their first museum experience. There's so much to explore – from the medieval creativity castle and interactive pirate ship to the Publix supermarket, WaterWise! exhibit and arts and crafts room.
Outside, kids will love climbing into the stationary antique fire truck and tending to (or harvesting) the museum's kids garden.

There's even an infant- and toddler-designated play space for the little ones, a nursing station and both family and kid restrooms.
Don't worry about fueling your kids' adventures at the museum! The CML Cafe has you covered, with light snacks available and outdoor spaces for picnicking. The Children's Museum admission is good for entry in and out of the museum all day, so food and rest breaks are not a problem!
