Located in downtown Charleston's historic Harleston Village neighborhood, the College of Charleston campus is a historic site and charming attraction all to itself. With carriage tours passing through daily, its small 10,000 student size, and Southern liberal arts personality, you'll be inspired to explore around C of C's beautiful city campus, situated mostly between Calhoun and Wentworth, and King and Pitt streets. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is the 13th oldest institution of higher learning in the country, and the oldest south of Virginia. Traditionally an all mens college, C of C now hosts a majority female population. Head to George, Glebe, Coming, and St. Philip streets for the most historic sections of campus, and be sure to take a stroll through the Cougar Mall pedestrian only walk through with openings on George, Coming, Calhoun and St. Philip streets. C of C's campus bricks are shaded by massive live oak trees draped in hanging Spanish moss - don't miss the picturesque Cistern Yard on George Street, the location for Charleston's outdoor graduation ceremony, and a great place for a picnic or quick shady nap.
