Broadway at the Beach's Best Restaurants: A Buffet of Food, Flavors

Close your eyes, throw a dart at a cookbook and there's a good chance you can find the dish at one of the many restaurants Broadway at the Beach has to offer. From seafood to Southern cooking and from Brazilian to Italian, Broadway offers a wide variety of restaurants to fuel up for a long day of shopping or refuel before a night out on the town.

Of course, seafood is the main attraction at this seaside district, and Broadway offers a bounty of fresh catch from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The Original Shuckers Raw Bar, Captain George's Seafood Buffet and Key West Grill are among the hot spots serving up excellent seafood, and King Kong Sushi adds a Japanese twist with fresh sushi and sashimi.

For the land-food lovers in your group, check out Rioz, a Brazilian tableside buffet that brings hot skewers of meats to you. More traditional Americana can be found at Carolina's Smokehouse, where the smell of Lowcountry favorites and Carolina barbecue attracts crowds from all over Broadway. And for the ultimate American experience, visit Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery for a taste of great cuts of meat, sandwiches and salads and fresh-brewed beers to wash it all down.

Experience a true taste of coastal South Carolina cuisine at this new Broadway at the Beach eatery. Offering fresh seafood items such as shrimp and grits and Lowcountry crab cakes, along with the Palmetto State's mainland favorite like pork barbecue and ribs, Sweet Carolina's Lowcountry Grill serves up Southern classics in the South Carolina tradition. Guests can smell the aroma of hickory and pecan wood carrying through the Broadway complex and follow their noses to the source at Sweet Carolinas. Also serving lunch, this hot spot offers sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads - all with a Lowcountry twist. Try the Fried Green Tomatoes with house-made Vidalia Onion Relish, the Seafood Bisque, the Spicy Chicken Gumbo, the Blackened Lowcountry Shrimp Wrap or the Spicy Catfish Bites. The dinner menu is more extensive, offering surf-and-turf combinations from local waters and farms, including fresh grouper and smoked beef brisket. Be sure to save room for dessert (strawberry shortcake or bread pudding) and enjoy ordering from a full bar and extensive wine list.

The southernmost American city has nothing on this eatery at Broadway at the Beach, which serves all the flavors of the Caribbean in an atmosphere that's straight off Duvall Street. Combining fresh local seafood with a mix of spices from the tropics, Key West gives its guests a true taste of the Florida Keys, such as its famous Coconut Shrimp and Blackened Grouper. King Kong is a fitting symbol for the enormous sushi rolls this place twists up for its guests. Located in the popular Broadway at the Beach shopping, dining and entertainment complex, King Kong offers excellent sushi, sashimi and hibachi dishes in a relaxed setting. Hardwood floors and tables with large-leaf ceiling fans create an enjoyable environment for couples, friends and families, and the wide range of Japanese cuisine ensures there's something on the menu for everyone. Captain George's Seafood Restaurant

Located across from Broadway at the Beach, Captain George's fresh seafood bounty is sure to dispel any misgivings you may have about the buffet experience. Plan on a feast of scallops, steamed crab legs, clams, mahi-mahi, shrimp, barbecued ribs, prime rib, salads and vegetables. The buffet table also features several dishes one doesn't normally expect to find at an all-you-can-eat establishment, like seafood pie and chicken alfredo. There are always plenty of dessert choices. Needless to say, if you plan to eat at one of the Captain's tables, bring along a BIG appetite. Children under 12 eat for half price.

Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery

Comfortable and friendly, Liberty offers two of America's favorite things: beer and beef, both of which they do extremely well. Beers are crafted right on the premises, in Myrtle Beach's largest brewery; try the Rockets' Red Ale, Miss Liberty Lager or a full-bodied Oatmeal Stout. Steaks are char-grilled, topped with fried onions, and accompanied by a salad and your choice of potato. There are other tasty options as well, such as fish and chips, awesome burgers and a fabulous spicy chicken and shrimp sandwich. Liberty features one of the most extensive menus on the Grand Strand so large parties with picky tastes can all find something to order.

Legendary crooner Jimmy Buffett sang about this mythical place back in the 1970s, and now it has become a reality. Margaritaville is everything Buffett sang about and more, featuring shrimp that are beginning to boil and generous servings of frozen concoctions that help you hang on. Located in the Heroes Harbour section of Broadway at the Beach, just below a tall lighthouse and beside a mock shipwreck, walking through the doors is like taking a trip to the Caribbean with Buffett himself. There's always a party going on in the huge bar and outdoor deck, where live music plays nightly during the summer months. The dining area is decorated in typical tropical style and the menu, loaded with fresh seafood, salads, sandwiches, and music are inspired by the life and times of Buffett.

3
Carolina Ale House

This regional chain has been a hit at Broadway since replacing the old Planet Hollywood location. Featuring more than 60 different types of beer on tap, a wide variety of food on the menu, and lots of big-screen TVs for sports viewing, Carolina Ale House has tapped into the taste buds of locals and visitors alike. Perhaps the most popular item on a menu loaded with options are the jumbo-sized chicken wings that come with an array of spices, seasonings and sauces. Wash them down with a selection of popular beer brands as well as regional microbrews, wines and craft cocktails.

2
The Grumpy Monk

Don't let the name fool you: There's nothing "grumpy" about the atmosphere, and the patrons are far from saints. But for those looking for a good time, craft brews and a refreshingly creative food menu, The Grumpy Monk is your place. The Grumpy Monk is a popular spot at Broadway at the Beach, both for its unique selection of national craft beers and its eclectic menu, that includes everything from burgers to sushi. A create-your-own salad menu and selection of gluten-free options provide a nice alternative to the array of fried and smothered items.
