What started as a ground-breaking initiative in Spain (and Europe) when it was first built in 1920, is now spreading its wings and opening a brand new, state of the art design hub, in what's become known as Barcelona's "Silicon Valley'. Disseny Hub Barcelona's (DHUB) new building is moving to Plaza de Glories and is set to be complete within 2012.
DHUB, essentially, is the fusion of a museum, a center and a research laboratory all of which are aimed at promoting an understanding for the intricate world of design. Seeing as Barcelona is one of the world’s leading authorities on art, architecture, design and urban planning, the new center has and continues to attract brilliant minds and experts in the field. DHUB focuses on four main areas including product design, visual communications, architecture and interior design as well as fashion. It is fast becoming a central hub and network for curators, creators and consumers and offers avant-garde information in the industry. Its goal is to also initiate further dialogue and enhanced collaboration between the design and business sectors.
DHUB's new building will be comprised of two sections, one below street level and one above. There will be a large, carpeted public area, an auditorium, a presentation room, exhibition areas and special research centers as well.
