The Gothic Quarter's classiest rustic bar is now playing music on Thursday evenings. Ginger, long renowned as a wine and cocktail bar, is one of Barcelona's off-the-beaten-path secrets. Nestled behind Plaza Sant Juss, right up from the Jaume I metro stop (yellow line), Ginger not only has a vast wine list but also offers a delicious menu of high-quality tapas including tuna and salmon tartar, cured cheeses, duck, salads and daily specials.

This three-story bar/restaurant has become a local watering hole for the neighborhood, with the odd tourist stumbling in from time to time. Ginger's new Thursday night music sessions are a welcome addition. With a mix of live bands and well-known DJs, there is a diverse and interesting lineup meaning you can come back each week and it'll never feel redundant.
Ginger is right around the corner from Bliss and Cafe L'Academia, two excellent restaurants, especially if you're looking for an outdoor patio during the summer months. Although many consider Ginger to be more of a 'winter bar' (due to its dim lighting, warm vibe and lack of terrace), there are two entrances: one at the front and one at the back, which provide for a nice breeze no matter how hot it gets. It's a great place to start the evening, especially on Thursdays.
