The Spanish capital’s summertime celebration of culture and of the written word is back. From May 25 to June 10, Madrid’s annual Book Fair will bring writers, publishers, bookstores and booklovers together in the middle of the city’s best-loved recreational space, Retiro Park.
You can choose to take part in the workshops and cultural events, but the main attraction of the fair is the books themselves – with row after row of Spain’s publishing houses and bookstores exhibiting their wares. You can browse and buy books, and sometimes the authors are on hand to sign them. In a past edition, I was able to get a book signed by one of my favorite authors, Cristina Morató.

While most books at the fair will be in Spanish, others will be available in English, or even Italian. In fact, Italian literature will be featured, as each year the fair highlights literature from a different country and this year the selected country is Italy. The Italian writer Claudio Magris will help kick off this year’s events.
See you there!
