Spain's largest bullring – one of its most prestigious too – is built in red brick and painted tile in a neo-Mudéjar style, and can hold around 24,000 spectators. Set in a huge plaza, its statues pay homage to famous bullfighters. On fight days, dozens of stalls sprawl here, selling snacks, drinks and souvenirs. The complex hosts corridas (bullfights) on Sundays between March and October, and for the whole month of the San Isidro festival in May. But it's not necessary to see one to glimpse the bullring, which can be seen from the Museu Taurino (Taurine Museum). Its collection includes sculptures and paintings of famous fighters, as well as plenty of original trajes de luces ("suits of lights", the sequin-covered outfits) like those worn by the legendary Manolete, who was killed in the ring in 1947.
