Rowan Oak is the home of author William Faulkner, the Southern literary lion and Nobel laureate who is the author of The Sound and the Fury and Light in August, among other novels, plays, and short stories.
The home, a Greek revival built in the 1840s, was in disrepair when purchased by Faulkner in 1930. The stately home sits on a large piece of forested property, and is simple in both its surroundings and its furnishings. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places.
