Be sure to begin your day trip to Franklin by grabbing your camera; the day promises its share of capture-worthy moments that you’ll want to catch on film.
The first place to visit on your Franklin itinerary is Merridee’s Breadbasket for the best assortment of breakfast sandwiches and pastries in town. Located off the square in historic downtown, Merridee’s is a landmark and treasure of this picturesque, southern city.

Once your belly is full and your taste buds are happy, head down Main Street until you come to the antique shops on Fourth. There’s so much to do and so much to see; be sure to pace yourself. Trinkets, baubles, and priceless mementos are shelved in every shop. From mason jars (that once held some of the finest moonshine) to rare and exotic furniture and paintings, these shops hold true treasures of the South.
After you've had your fill of shopping, it’s time to make your way back into the heart of downtown for a bite at Puckett’s Grocery. Here, you can have a plate of some of the best pork in Tennessee, sample the raved over sweet potato fries, and pick up a loaf of bread or even a spare roll of paper towels. Puckett’s not only boasts award-winning eats, it also serves as a tried-and-true grocery store.

Be sure to snap a few pictures of the downtown square (or as the locals call it, "the sqae-ah") before you head over to Carnton Plantation for an afternoon walking tour. The former home of the prominent McGavock family, this plantation served as a hospital after the bloody and devastating Battle of Franklin. It’s also the site for the best-selling book, Widow of the South, written by Robert Hicks.
Its sprawling grounds and cemetery are the perfect setting for photos that capture a time gone by. The tour inside shows the amazing restoration efforts, and tells a haunting recollection of the aftermath of the battle that will remain with you long after your visit is over.
Once you’ve soaked up the history, and walked off that previously enjoyed home-cooked meal, make way to The Factory at Franklin for a unique establishment of boutiques, wood-working crafts, and delectable fares.
For dinner, martinis, and live jazz music, visit Saffire, a trendy hot spot located conveniently inside The Factory. Their mouth-watering fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, or lighter divine salads never fail to satisfy patrons. Don't forget to have one of the friendly waiters snap a picture of that smile on your face. Remember that anytime you’re ready, another Franklin adventure eagerly awaits you.
