With the debut of the new and improved iconic Big Tex (a 52-ft. cowboy), the 2013 State Fair of Texas will shine as bright as the stars in the Lone Star State. This popular attraction will be held from September 27 until October 20, 2013 in Fair Park, Dallas. One of the biggest state fairs in the world, the State Fair of Texas has everything - a giant midway, an auto show, livestock shows and competitions, rivalry college football games, educational exhibits, live entertainment, and the best fried food in the U.S.

That's right - the Texas State Fair is where creative chefs debut their unique fried concoctions. In the past, items like fried Twinkies, fried Coke, fried PB, jelly and banana sandwich, and chicken fried bacon made their mark on visitors, and some of this year's highly anticipated items include deep-fried Nutella, fried Cuban rolls, fried King Ranch casserole, and fried Thanksgiving dinner. Or you could just stick to the State Fair of Texas staples - a Fletcher's corny dog and lemonade.
Work off all those calories cheering for your favorite team at one of many well-attended college football games like the Grambling State vs. Prairie View A&M game on October 5th, which has been made famous for its halftime marching band competition. The Red River Rivalry, University of Texas vs. University of Oklahoma, will take place on October 12th. In between all the eating and football, explore the giant fairgrounds, ride the biggest ferris wheel in the U.S., the Texas Star, and see some of the best of Texas.
