The iconic Texas Theatre is best known for being where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. But when it opened in 1931, the theatre was the largest of its kind in Dallas, and was even briefly owned by billionaire Howard Hughes. Over the years, the theatre fell into decline, suffered a fire, and was slated for demolition until the city of Dallas and the Oak Cliff Foundation renovated it and leased it out to Aviation Cinemas Inc in 2010. Now the venue is operated by a brilliant group of filmmakers who draw in the crowds by screening cult classics and indie films, many of which are shown on 35mm film. Along with films, the theatre boasts a prohibition-style bar that's a popular hangout for film goers as well as those wanting to just stop in for a drink.
