High fives gets a high five for being everything a neighborhood watering hole should aspire to be. It's laid-back with a welcoming vibe; it has a huge patio sporting a bar, a TV and a cornhole game, plus there's live music every Thursday night and DJs on the weekends. Oh, and it's wallet friendly too-- with most all of the options (booze and food) priced at around $10 or less. Along with shareable platters, the sandwich-centric menu covers everything from a PBJ crunch with homemade jam on donut bread to a ground beef patty with caramelized cactus and cholula aioli on rye. Cocktails prove popular here as well, with crafty signatures such as the Lindsey (Deep Eddy Lemon vodka, brown sugar, muddled watermelon and ginger beer) or the Gabby (Leblon Cachaça, apple syrup and muddled lime). Rounding off the libations, there's a short list of wine, ten local crafts on tap and another fifteen beers available by the bottle.

While Henderson Avenue has become a hive of trendy pubs and lounges, this unassuming local keeps things simple. It has plenty of seating, both inside and out, the music is always good and there are enough TVs scattered around if you want to catch a game. That's why Vickery Park is such a delight. It's a relaxed, no-frills tavern with around nine craft beers tap and over 50 different bottles (from Europe, Mexico and around the U.S.) behind the bar. Along with beer, there's a short set of ciders and wine as well as cocktails and a solid selection of upscale bar food. All in all, this is the perfect place to come when chatting with your pals is just as important as drinking.

A cracking beer selection and decidedly tasty bar fare (think mezze platters, skewers, burgers and pizzas) has clearly proven to be a good formula for this cozy neighborhood watering hole. Though its perennial popularity means that the place can also get very crowded. Fortunately, you have options of where to hang out. The outdoor patio is the most lively spot in the house. Or if you're looking for more elbow room, your best bet is to head indoors where you'll find all the essential boozer comforts: TVs, dart boards and plenty of seating, ranging from booths to tables to perches at the bar. As for drinking-- the draft and bottled beer collection covers everything from Belgium ales to Spanish lagers, Irish ciders and local craft brews. But the booze offerings go beyond beer, there's also an impressive list of scotch, bourbon and whiskey as well as seasonally-inspired cocktails. Capping it all off, the pub hosts regular events like weekend DJs, beer pairing dinners and game watching parties.

For those looking for a little action to go with their drinking-- behold Barcadia, a bar-arcade hybrid that serves up plenty of merriment by offering food, booze and classic quarter arcade games. And those games? Think Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat, plus skeeball, pinball, a 5-foot tall Connect Four and even giant Jenga. All that plus great food (burgers, fried PB&J sammies, falafel and even fried Oreos) and other fun one-off activities like DJ jams, beer dinners and '80s dance parties. Decent deals on happy hour booze and food as well as free play on games every Tuesday ensure a lively atmosphere most every day of the week.

Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior, this swanky restaurant-cum-nightclub is quite possibly the most attractive space to sip a drink along Henderson Avenue. Spanning 5,200 square feet over two floors, The Eberhard is a real dazzler with lofty ceilings, sparkling chandeliers and a massive 65-foot bar stretching the entire length of the building. Completing the scene is a lounge area flush with leather sofas and a color changing backlit bottle display behind the bar. But the place has more to offer than just good looks, it also serves up a terrific selection of elevated bar food (stout beer cheese dip with applewood smoked chips, farmhouse burgers and Oreo churros). And there's booze too: craft cocktails, wine and beer, alongside champagne and other favorite tipples. During early hours the atmosphere is much more low-key. Though, after 10 p.m. the bar turns into party central (with music, dancing and all) attracting a fashionable crowd who know a good drink and a good time when they taste one.
Recommended for Knox-Henderson's Best Nightlife because: The Eberhard is ideal for a night out when you're looking for something more sophisticated.
Ilene's expert tip: Get in on drink and food specials during happy hour, offered Tuesday-Friday from 4-7 p.m.
When you want to add a shot of glamour to your night, head to the Dram, an ultra-suave cocktail den offering delicious drinks in a low-lit setting replete with velvety sofas that encourage lounging. But there's more to do than lounge here. Music plays a prominent part of the mix, where live bands and regular DJ sets promise everything from R&B to pop. You'll also want to check out the tipples, which include a cast of whiskeys, champagnes and terrific hand-crafted libations. Maybe it's the name, but we're partial to the Twiggy Warhol, a heady concoction of vodka, St. Germaine, cucumber, citrus and simple syrup. Arrive early or reserve a table to avoid the line to get in. And be sure to dress to impress; it's that sort of place.

For those who like to multitask, behold the Beauty Bar, a retro-themed '50s beauty salon-- where you can drink, dance and have your nails decked out at the (almost) same time. But it's also one of the hottest hipster destinations in town, boasting DJ driven dance parties to the likes of hip-hop, funk, disco and electro. And as if that's not enough, the place hosts live music, pizza parties-- and offers $10 martinis & manicures from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays.

It's not difficult to see why The Old Monk is one of Dallas' favorite watering holes. The place, adorned with ecclesiastical antiquities-- including lights from an old monastery, reclaimed dark wood paneling from confessional booths and a turn of the century altar door, is literally gushing with charm. It's also gushing with an exhaustive list of beer; including Trappist brews like Dubbal and Chimay as well as draft and bottled beers from England, Holland, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the United States. In addition to beer, you'll find a smashing line-up of whiskeys plus wine and craft cocktails. Eclectic tipples and creative pub grub keeps this handsome neighborhood tavern buzzing at almost all hours of the day. And it's no wonder, the place was brewed up by the people behind Dallas' popular brunching and dining spot, Bread Winners Cafe. For munching, there's everything from house-made charcuterie to free range rotisserie chicken, bone marrow burgers and a Texas-style brisket pho. And there's clearly quite a bit of thought gone into the cocktails, where an emphasis is on house-made mixers and spirits--think pistachio orgeat and pumpkin infused whiskey. Henry's also boasts a hidden speakeasy that's mostly open on the weekends and offers live music on the patio every Friday through Sunday.
